Emergencies can happen at any time. Being prepared can save your life and your family's lives.
Essential Emergency Numbers
- 911 — Police, Fire, Medical emergency (free from any phone)
- 211 — Social services, housing help, food assistance
- 311 — Non-emergency city services
- 988 — Mental health crisis / suicide prevention
- FEMA: 1-800-621-3362 (disaster assistance)
Build an Emergency Kit
- Water: 1 gallon per person per day for 3 days
- Food: 3-day supply of non-perishable items
- Flashlight and extra batteries
- First aid kit
- Copies of important documents (passport, green card, insurance, medications)
- Cash (ATMs may not work during disasters)
- Phone charger / portable battery
- Medications for 7 days
Know Your Local Hazards
- California / Pacific Northwest: Earthquakes, wildfires
- Gulf Coast / Southeast: Hurricanes, flooding
- Midwest: Tornadoes
- Northeast: Blizzards, nor'easters
If You Must Evacuate
- Follow official evacuation orders immediately — do not wait
- Know at least 2 evacuation routes from your home
- Have a designated family meeting point outside your neighborhood
- Register with your local emergency management office if you need special assistance (disability, elderly)
During a Police or ICE Encounter
You have the right to remain silent. You are not required to answer questions about your immigration status. Stay calm and do not run. Contact a lawyer as soon as possible.
